It sounds so simple, but just changing something small on what you already have makes such a difference.
One of my top DIY tips would be to change the handles/knobs on drawers and cupboards to instantly update them. When I first moved to our flat, we couldn't afford to buy a new chest of drawers for our bathroom. So instead, we kept the old pine Argos one I had since university, painted it white and changed the naff plastic handles for crystal ones. Done. 2 years on, I still haven't replaced it because actually, I love it.
Oh, did I mention that Homebase do really good homewares? Plus you can use your Nectar points...
I bought this walnut coffee table to use as a TV cabinet as it fits perfectly in our alcove and you can hide all sorts of dvds and 'stuff' in that top drawer.
I thought the handle looked a bit too generic though, so changed for these faux marble ones my sister had spare...
And my Ikea 'Pax Fardal' wardrobes look great with these pumpkin shaped crystal knobs:
Love these quirky styles:
Totally agree with you on this Alex, simple but SO effective!
ReplyDeleteHave you been to Chloe Alberry on Portobello Road? Pricier than the highstreet but there's an awesome selection. http://www.chloealberry.com/
Ooh, what a gorgeous treasure trove! Looks amazing! Must visit.
DeleteThis is SO true - I love all the anthropology ones - I have their knobs in my bathroom and I used some to make coat hooks in the hall and then also for my wardrobe in the spare room! And I think I bought ALL of them at least half-price in the sale!
ReplyDeleteFor Baby B's bedroom we're going to get a cheap Ikea pine drawer set, and change the handles for those little plastic animals you always have when you are a kid so it's more fun!!!
Lorna, you are my frugality inspiration!! You must let me take pics of Baby B's room when you're done?!
DeleteI'm a really big fan of knobs (and the endless double entendres!). I'm the proud owner of the robin knob you feature here. Love the butterfly ones too.
ReplyDeleteQuestion though: where can I get decent kitchen cupboard handles? I find handles much harder to come upon than good knobs...
Is this a challenge?! Interesting...I always think John Lewis is pretty good for handles...and a colleague at work has found those old filing cabinet handles (the curved metal ones) in long handle size- they look good. Will keep my eyes peeled. PS my parents deal with a knob company called 'Knobs and Knockers' - teehee!
DeleteThose are really cute door knob and I love the design. For sure many house hold will love to put these door knobs on their home.
