Lucky No.13

Some of you may know, I have set up a small business with my husband on the side of my work. It all began last year when we couldn't find anyone to film our wedding - we didn't want a long, laboured video - we wanted something short, snappy and with really good music. So instead, we got someone to film it and we Art Directed it, chose the music and asked for the edit we wanted. And then we started to think 'we can do this'. So we did.

We have finally launched our website 'Lucky Number Thirteen' - and we do short videos for events, parties, weddings and anything, really. One of our first projects was editing the Behind The Scenes video of Winona Ryder for Redonline and we even put together a short film of our honeymoon in Japan:

2-4 minute snippets are often easier to digest and these are so easy to share via social media in today's world. And for us, they sum up the fun of the experience - as much as photos.

It has been lovely working with my husband creatively (I think we have a newfound respect for each other's talents), and we already have a few bookings for later this year. We can even splice together photos and videos to music if you have clips you want us to put together. Check out our vimeo link here.

  2. Well done! Wish I had known sooner as my daughter gets married in June but has booked a videographer. Get the big wedding blogs like Rock My Wedding and Love My Dress to do a piece for you, I'm sure this will really take off and wish you every success x

  3. A brilliant idea! So much better than the traditional (truly dreadful) videos.
Also coveting the black dress you wear in Japan.

    1. Thank you! AND it's fun making them - win win! The dress was from Cos and perfect for Japan as it was so light and airy

  4. Brilliant idea Alex, I would have loved this for my wedding last year. We ended up going without a video because we couldn't justify the cost of the videographers we liked and I really regret it (especially as my husband played/sang an impromptu song for me). I'm sure it will be a bit hit for you. Getting married inspired me to set up my own business too - Bloom Fleuriste - so I share your excitement/nerves/adventure in doing something new! I agree with the other commenter, getting featured on one of the big wedding blogs really helps. Good luck! Hannah x

    1. Thanks Meera, we're only small at the moment and decided if we get 2 commissions this year would be great - and we're on 3 already! So we're happy!

  6. Congratulations, great idea. I would get in touch with Emma Case, she is a great wedding photographer - she did my best friends wedding, Nicky and Dave in France.
